Make this fashion week flawless (literally!): Stock up on DermaQuest

Beauty boost - DermaQuest

If you’re anything like us, your bathroom will be fit to burst with bottles and tubs and tubes all promising to make your skin less spotty, less dry, less red, less wrinkled and more glowing than it currently is. While they may well work to soothe the immediate problem for at least long enough to get a few dewy-skinned photos in on a night out, often the underlying problem remains. Instead of just soldiering on with the same routine in the hope that one day it’ll definitely work for you, perhaps it’s time to consider a different approach.

Fondly dubbed cosmoceuticals, DermaQuest products and treatments lie somewhere between cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. They’re the ideal remedy for when you’ve traipsed down every skincare aisle in your local Boots and are yet to find a moisturiser / exfoliator / other apparently magic little cream that solves your problem, but don’t quite yet feel the need to go knocking on a dermatologist doctor’s door.

DermaQuest are the leaders in plant stem cell technology. Far from being a slightly daunting procedure from a futuristic sci-fi movie, their use safeguards your skin’s future. A thoroughly researched blend of hydrating, protective and transformative ingredients provides indulgent care that maintains skin integrity. Pampering and performance. Sounding too good to be true, the Your Coffee Break team thought it best to put DermaQuest facials to the test.

‘We are luxury bottled’, DermaQuest claim, ‘a custom regimen brewed specially for you’. As we sat down in the receptions of EF Medispa and Destination Skin on King’s Road in Chelsea, we found this to be true almost immediately: we were presented with extensive forms to fill in, examining every detail of our medical and skincare history so that the fantastic specialists could tailor the facials to our skin types and problem areas. The DermaQuest range is divided in to collections, but the beauty of the facial is that the practitioners use their extensive knowledge to dip in to each collection, finding the perfect combination of products for our skin. A skincare pick ‘n’ mix, if you will.

Indulging in DermaQuest facials at EF Medispa and Destination Skin, both places have a clinical feel. It’s immediately apparent that this won’t be the whale music and lavender scented spa treatment we’ve become accustomed to. Then again, it’s not supposed to be. This is, for all intents and purposes, a medical remedy. Women with severe problems like acne, pigmentation and fine lines rely on DermaQuest as a non-invasive remedial procedure, again cementing DermaQuest’s middle ground between bathroom cabinet staples and the hospital bed.

Led in to treatment rooms, we were pleasantly surprised to hear the sound of soft aromatherapy music. Ok, so maybe this would be a little luxurious after all. With each facial comprising seven or eight different products, what intrigued us most was the variety of textures we were feeling on our skin. A particular favourite was a firming enzyme mask distributed with a brush; both novel and strangely spine-tingling. We drifted off in to a sleepy haven as stem cell serums were gently massaged in to our chin, cheeks and forehead, and collagen masks left our skin feeling instantly hydrated. Not all were quite so pleasant – the pumpkin peel induced a deep fiery, burning sensation. We had to remind ourselves that unlike our usual facials, relaxation was a bonus rather than the sole purpose.

DermaQuest promises sustainable rather than immediate results. It’s a long term relationship that needs nurturing. With that in mind we were talked through which products we should take home with us to achieve and maintain the skin we dream of, just as a doctor prescribes on-going medication for an ailment …and if we have to pop back every now and then for an indulgent top-up facial? Oh go on then.
